Why are Smoothies Good for You?

Smoothies are good for you because you can put many vegetables in fruits into a blender and consume it in one delicious meal. Most of you don’t eat 5 different fruits and vegetables in one meal at breakfast or lunch! Some people don’t even get that many in several days!

Another reason smoothies are good for you is because of the fiber they provide. The reason you need fiber is for elimination. Your body is built in such an amazing way that all of the toxins from all parts of your body end up in the colon. The colon fills up with all of the waste. To properly eliminate this waste matter, it needs fiber.

The two types of fiber are soluble and insoluble. YES you need both!

Soluble means that it dissolves in water. Soluble fiber attracts water and turns into a gel like substance. It slows digestion and makes you feel full longer. This can help control weight, lower bad cholesterol (LDL) by obstructing the absorption of cholesterol, affects blood sugar levels which may control diabetes and boosts the immune system.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water. It passes through your gastrointestinal tract mostly intact, speeds up the movement of waste and food through the gut and adds bulk to the stool. It decreases the risk of intestinal and colon cancer, aids in digestion and promotes healthy bacteria in the colon. Good sources of insoluble fiber are found in greens, peels, seeds, beans, and the husks of grains.

If you do not eat enough fiber, the waste increases in your body and stagnates. Yuk!

Your body is only able to absorb nutrients from the tiniest particles of food. This is why chewing your food is so important. I know you have heard that digestion starts in your mouth, well its true. Large particles of food, no matter how healthy and nutritious they are, do not get digested and end up as acidic waste. This is why blending your greens and fruits in a smoothie can make an excellent improvement in your health. All of that goodness is blended into tiny particles and your body doesn’t have to work hard at breaking it down, most of the work is done.

So now that you know smoothies are good for you, go grab your blender and throw some greens in there! Oh and when you aren’t having a smoothie make sure that you chew your food more and more and more!
