While a lot of people enjoyed the federal rounds of stimulus, there may be additional support they didn’t realize was available. Some states are providing extra stimulus to their residents. Funds were given out to states by the federal government through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The number of funds that each state got must be used by a specific deadline. A plan must be created by 2024 and the funds will need to be spent by 2026. However, other states have different reasons for providing their stimulus support regardless of the funds they received from this opportunity. It just depends on the state!
States Providing Additional Stimulus
The best source of information when it comes to your state’s stimulus opportunity is to check with your state government directly. They are the source that has the most accurate and up-to-date information on their stimulus opportunity. However, some states providing additional stimulus to their residents include:
Colorado
To get this stimulus opportunity, Colorado residents needed to have filed their taxes or applied for the PTC rebate by June 30th, 2022. Those that were able to file what they needed to by the deadline can expect their stimulus to arrive in August or September 2022. It will come in the form of a rebate check worth either:
- $400 for single filers
- $800 for joint filers
However, the exact amount could be more if the state brings in more revenue than they expect!
Delaware
A lot of Delaware residents started to receive their stimulus payments back in May of 2022, thanks to the 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate program. However, some other eligible residents can expect their payments to be delivered throughout the Summer. Residents in Delaware won’t need to do anything to receive their checks if they qualify.
Georgia
Residents in Georgia that filed their 2020 and 2021 tax returns can qualify for a stimulus rebate payment. The amount they would get depends on their tax filing status. This means:
- $250 rebate payments are for single filers
- $250 rebate payments are for married couples filing separately
- $375 rebate payments are for the head of household filers
- $500 rebate payments are for married couples filing jointly
Hawaii
While Hawaii provided an additional stimulus opportunity, it also took it one step further. They also made changes to their minimum wage for the years to come! The stimulus opportunity they are providing their residents will come in the form of a tax rebate. The amount that the resident could get would depend on their income:
- Those that make less than $100,000 per year get $300
- Those that make more than $100,000 per year get $100
Payments are expected to begin going out during the last week of August. Besides this stimulus opportunity, Hawaii also made changes to its minimum wage. Starting on October 1st, 2022, the minimum wage will be $12 an hour. It will change every two years moving forward until 2028:
- $14 minimum wage will start on January 1st, 2024
- $16 minimum wage will start on January 1st, 2026
- $18 minimum wage will start on January 1st, 2028
Idaho
Qualifying Idaho residents can benefit from a stimulus check opportunity. As long as they were a full-year resident for both 2020 and 2021 and filed an Idaho individual income tax return for those years, they can be eligible. This state provides a lot of time for its residents to get their filing done because the deadline is December 31st, 2022. The amount that a resident can receive will be the greater amount out of the following:
- $75 per taxpayer and each dependent of the taxpayer
- 12% of the amount reported on the taxpayer’s Form 40 (or Form 43 if they were a qualifying servicemember)
Indiana
Residents in Indiana will be able to see a stimulus opportunity through the “Use of Excess Reserves” law as long as they qualify. This one-time tax refund will be worth up to $250. The best part is that eligible residents won’t need to do anything to qualify. Instead, they can expect the funds to come in either the form of a paper check or direct deposit if they filed their 2020 Indiana resident tax return with a qualifying form by January 3rd, 2022. Payments started going out in May but will continue throughout the summer.
Maine
Maine is providing a stimulus worth up to $1,700 to their residents that qualify. The amount that residents will be able to see depends on the following eligibility criteria:
- Not be a dependent
- Filed their 2021 taxes by October 31st, 2022
- Have a qualifying Federal Adjusted Gross Income (FAGI)
Minnesota
Qualifying residents in Minnesota can get a one-time payment of $750 through Frontline Worker Pay. The application window for this opportunity closed on July 22nd, 2022. To have qualified, residents must have:
- Been employed in Minnesota for a minimum of 120 hours in a frontline sector of the workforce between a specific timeframe
- Had an eligible income for at least one year between a specific timeframe
- Not have received any unemployment insurance benefit on a cumulative basis for more than 20 weeks between a specific timeframe
